We are an active congregation that is constantly looking for ways to share our blessings and make better use of our resources. We value opportunities to share each others company through fellowship as well as spreading the good news through our fundraising and outreach efforts.
One of the long standing traditions at Lord of Life has been our annual Holiday Bazaar featuring a plethora of delightful, hand-made craft items and baked goods. One of the hallmarks of the event is the preparation and sale of pasties. The bazaar is usually the first Saturday of November and is well attended, drawing patrons from miles around.
Our outreach ministry is much more than a program that is overseen by a few dedicated volunteers. Our entire congregation takes great interest in supporting and promoting Lord of Life's outreach effort. Besides providing financial support to over a dozen local charities, our congregation and youth volunteer bodily to such causes as Ministry With Community, SWELL and South County Community Services. The CROP Walk and more recently, Love's Garden enlist a large number of congregational and commnity volunteers.
One of the many resources available to our congregation is space and one of the ways we found to make that space work for the good of the community was to till a portion of it and plant a garden. In the first year of its existence, Loaves and Fishes of Kalamazoo was the grateful recipient of over 700 pounds of vegetables harvested from Love's Garden.
Every spring our congregation joins ranks with the churches of South Kalamazoo County to participate in the annual South County CROP Hunger Walk. The acronym CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. Our church is always near the top in terms of the number of participants and the amount raised. There is a friendly competition among the churches to see who will win the "Big Shoes" trophy, awarded to the church which raises the most money.
